The Tamil Nadu Hijra Committee of India had organized the daylong seminar at Sheeraz Mahal, Egmore in Chennai. There was huge assembly of elites of Muslim community showing great interest in the subject.
Mr. M. Abdul Jaleel presided over the seminar. Mr. S. Thahir Saifuddeen, Dr. A. Mohammad Ali PhD.(Former professor of Arabic & Islamic Studies, International Islamic University, Malaysia), Dr. Koya Kutty Farooqui (Kerela), Moulavi K. P. Abdul Rasheed, Moulavi S.O. Abdul Latheef Omari, Moulavi H. Muhammad Zubair Firdousi, Captain Naseem Siddiqui ( Bakri Navigation Co. Ltd.Saudi Arabia), A.M. G. Masood (State Secretary) Mr. M.M. Abdul Qadir Omri, and Mr. Abu Abdullah Trichy submitted their research accomplishment to the audience.
The main nucleus of the research presentations was to establish that only the Lunar Calendar is challengeable in accuracy and in competency in comparison to Roman, Julian and Gregorian ones which are disputable and implausible; they all needed correction and adjustments of leap years here and there unlike the Lunar calendar.
Most of the scholars threw light on Holy Quran to confirm how Allah commanded Ramadan with regards to fasting and proved how accuracy was maintained.
Captain N. Siddique, a veteran mariner, spoke about his experience in his marine life and said that, "There are 42 stars and 32 of them bear Arabic names". He said that he totally depended on the stars and full moon and conjunction (No moon) to arrive his navigational accuracy.
At the seminar, there was also light and exhibition show of various stars and phases of moon. There was a chart depicting our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's wish for an accurate calendar.
